Santa Clarita is still under both a Wind Advisory and Red Flag Warning — an alert issued by National Weather Service to make residents aware of increased fire danger — because of winds up to 55 MPH Monday.

The city should expect “gusty and locally damaging Santa Ana Winds through noon (on Monday),” said a report from the National Weather Service.
The winds should come from the north to the northeast at 25-35 miles per hour, with continuous gusts ranging from 45-55 miles per hour, according to the report.
“Gusty winds will make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles,” said the report. “Winds will affect travel on area roadways including Interstate 5 and Highways 14 and 126.”
The National Weather Service advises extra caution when driving, and for drivers to be prepared for sudden gusts of cross winds.
Santa Clarita has also been placed under a Red Flag Warning as of Sunday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issues Red Flag Warnings to alert fire departments off the onset, of critical weather and dry conditions that could lead to rapid or dramatic increases in wildfire activity, according to officials.
Strong high pressure over the Great Basin will create a moderate to locally strong Santa Ana wind event that will stretch across Ventura and Los Angeles counties, according to officials.
“Relative humidity will drop into the teens and single digits while temperatures soar to near record levels. So, an extended period of critical fire weather conditions is expected across sections of Ventura and Los Angeles counties,” said the report.
“Any new fire ignitions will have the potential for large growth with rapid fire spread,” said the report.
The Red Flag Warning is expected to be lifted after 3 p.m. today.
