Wednesday Night Power Outages Affect 7,000 Customers

A large chunk of the Santa Clarita Valley lost power Wednesday night, the result of two Southern California Edison equipment malfunctions.

Roughly 5,600 customers experienced the power outage in Stevenson Ranch and Westridge between 9:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. According to Edison Spokeswoman Anna Frutos Sanchez, this was due to bad cable in the area, which caused several transformers to malfunction.

In an effort to isolate the damaged cable, Edison crews had to switch power temporarily, which may have caused power fluctuations in other Valencia and Newhall neighborhoods.

In a separate incident, Sanchez told KHTS that underground components failed near Newhall Avenue and Railroad Ave at about 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, causing an outage for approximately 1,500 customers in the Newhall area.
