Weekly Nixle Crime Reports Are In For 07/01-07/07

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies cracked down on crime and drunk driving this week, in an effort to keep our community safe.

Deputies responded to reports of possible arson on Monday when the owner of a Ford Expedition in Canyon Country discovered the inside of her car had been burned over night.

Four individuals believed to be connected with the “Latin Lotto” scam, were arrested on June 27, the Los Angeles County District Office reported Monday. One of their four elderly victims is a Newhall resident.

Deputies conducted a drug bust on Wednesday on Tossano Drive in Valencia, seizing methamphetamine and arresting two individuals. Animal Control seized two pit bulls from the same residence.

Even though Independence Day is over, deputies are committed to showing residents that driving under the influence is dangerous any day of the week.

A DUI checkpoint was held on Thursday at Lyons Avenue and Wheeler Road, netting two arrests and three vehicles towed.

Santa Clarita Valley residents scheduled for upcoming court appearances include Miguel Schiappapietra, 28, of Castaic. The former Los Angeles Police officer was arrested in May on two counts of lewd acts with a child.

As part of modern law enforcement and in an effort to keep the community informed, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is creating a deliberate presence on social media.

They are tracking trends and trying a multi-generational approach, department-wide.

Last week’s crimes and arrests are highlighted in the station’s weekly Nixle reports. Nixle reports provide a snapshot of crime, as well as notify citizens of any local crime trends. Click here to sign up.

Below are reports from the different Sheriff zone’s throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station divides its coverage into five zones for the Nixle reports. They are listed below alphabetical order.

Here’s a summary of incidents that took place in the last week in Santa Clarita (If your zone isn’t listed, keep checking back for updates):

Canyon Country east

This week in Canyon Country-East we had 12 Part-1 crimes. Of those reported crimes, there were 3 burglaries, 8 larcenies, and 1 stolen vehicle.

A hot prowl burglary occurred from the 24900 block of Solamint Road. The victim’s cellphone, Ipad and cameras were stolen while the victim was taking a shower. Entrance was made through the unlocked front door. A residential burglary occurred from the 17800 block of Ness Drive. The victim’s purse was stolen from her bedroom. A garage burglary occurred from the 27300 block of Palo Verde Place. The locking mechanism to the garage was damaged. Tools and personal items were stolen.

A grand theft occurred from the 27500 block of Sierra Highway. The victim believes his ex-girlfriend stole his jewelry and US currency. A grand theft occurred from the 18300 block of Soledad Canyon Road. Unknown suspects stole copper wire from SoCal Edison. A petty theft occurred from the 19100 block of Golden Valley Rd. While the victim was eating at the location, her wallet was stolen from her purse. A petty theft occurred from the 16800 block of Shinedale Drive. Numerous plants were stolen from the victim’s rear yard. A petty theft occurred from Solamint Road and Dolan Way. The victim’s driver’s side mirror was stolen from his vehicle. A petty theft occurred from the 18000 block of Grace Lane. The victim’s ex-boyfriend stole her checks and cashed them at a check cashing location. A theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred from the 8200 block of Jakes Way. The victim’s purse was stolen from the floorboard of her vehicle.

A vehicle burglary occurred from the 15600 block of Bronco Drive. The victim’s laptop, GPS and other electronics were stolen from her vehicle. Entrance was made by smashing the window.

A 2008 motorcycle was stolen from the 18000 block of Soledad Canyon Rd.

Continue to lock your windows and garage doors, and make sure to also lock your vehicles.

Canyon Country west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

(1) Aggravated Assault, (1) Residential Burglary, (3) Commercial Burglaries, (1) Vehicle Burglary, (2) Shoplift, (2) Grand Thefts, (1) Petty Theft and (1) GTA.

An aggravated assault occurred near the 20800 block of Centre Pointe Parkway. A male suspect hit the victim in the chest and shoulder area with a skateboard. After a short fight ensued, the suspect fled the location. The case is currently under investigation.

A residential burglary occurred near the 26800 block of Isabella Parkway. The victim woke up and saw a male suspect in her bedroom. When the victim screamed, the suspect fled with the victim’s purse.

Two commercial burglaries occurred near the 19000 block of Soledad Canyon Road. Both incidents involved an unknown suspect shattering the front glass door of the location and ransacking front offices. The suspect(s) then kicked in an interior storage/office door at both locations. It is unknown if the incidents are related. Santa Clarita Valley Station Detectives are currently investigating both cases.

A male suspect was arrested for burglary/shoplifting near the 26400 block of Carl Boyer Drive. The suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after attempting to exit the location without paying for items. The suspect was subsequently arrested by responding deputies.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 19200 block of Newhouse Street. An unknown suspect pried open the trunk of one of the victim’s vehicles and attempted to break into a second vehicle parked at the location. It was undetermined at the time of the incident, if anything was taken.

A 2012 Kia Optima was taken from the driveway of the location near the 18500 block of Ironshire Street. The suspect took the keys to the vehicle, which were left in an open garage.

Newhall

Newhall saw eight reported part one crimes. Of those crimes, Newhall (Zone 6) had one vehicle burglary, one petty theft, two robberies, two stolen vehicles, one arson, and one assault reported.

A vehicle burglary was reported from the 24200 block of Arch Street in Newhall. The vehicle was rummaged through and the suspect(s) attempted to steal the radio by prying the dashboard inside the vehicle (ref -08879).

An assault was reported from the 25000 block of Walnut Street. This incident is classified as a domestic violence incident. One male Hispanic adult was arrested on felony battery charges (ref -09191).

An attempt grand theft vehicle (motorcycle) was reported from the 25100 block of Everett Drive. While inside, the informant heard a truck outside the location. The informant went outside and discovered the suspect(s) trying to steal his brother-in-law’s Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle. The suspect claimed he was a repo man, however the motorcycle was already paid off and the victim was in possession of the pink slip. The suspect(s) fled the area and the investigation is ongoing (ref -09213).

Arson was reported from the men’s bathroom of the Metrolink Station located on the 24300 block of Railroad Avenue. An unknown suspect(s) lit the toilet paper dispenser on fire. Approximately $300 worth of damage was caused. The investigation is being handled by L.A. County Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detectives (ref -09116).

A 2000 Chevy 1500 pickup was reported stolen from the Newhall Avenue/SR-14 Park-N-Ride area. The vehicle was stolen during the daytime hours (6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.) on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013 (ref -09017).

Both robbery incidents occurred on Tuesday, July 2 from the Vons located on the 24100 block of Lyons Avenue. One of the incidents occurred at 2:45 p.m. and the next at 5:40 p.m. Both incidents allegedly involved suspects stealing from the location and then using force with loss prevention officers. Suspects in both incidents were arrested (ref -08954 -08963).

There were multiple arrests over the past week in Newhall, and deputies continue to be proactive during the summer months.

Saugus

Saugus saw three reported part one crimes within the city limits of zone 4 (Saugus). Of those three crimes, Saugus had one residential burglary, one petty theft, and one stolen vehicle reported.

A residential burglary was reported from the 28300 block of Welfleet Lane in Saugus. Money and jewelry were reported stolen. The victim’s son had his friend living at the home during the incident. One male has been arrested in this case and detectives are investigating a possible second suspect. No further information is being released at this time (ref -09005).

A petty theft was reported from Mabel’s Roadhouse located on the 26300 block of Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. A female victim left her iPhone, purse, and other items on one of the tables inside the location at approximately 1:05 a.m. She walked away and returned to discover the items were no longer there. Deputies responded and the suspect was ultimately arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant, possession of marijuana, and the victim signed a private person’s arrest for the petty theft (ref -08977).

A 2000 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from the 27400 block of Arriola Avenue in Saugus. The vehicle was recovered the next day on the 26800 block of Isabella Parkway in Canyon Country (ref -09073).
