Where There Is Light, There Is Hope

lohWhen you or a family member is dealing with a serious personal issue, you look to others for support in getting through the difficult time. A Light of Hope has offered support for those families in a way that has never been offered in Santa Clarita before.

Tim and Susan Traurig opened the A Light of Hope Support Center a few years ago and the motivation to start this support group started after two of the Traurig’s daughters came home to Santa Clarita from multiple rehabs without much support.

“When we spent all of our money to send them to rehab and they came back to Santa Clarita there wasn’t a whole lot to offer them as far as support,” said Tim Traurig. “We decided to build that what we didn’t have when our kids went through their issues.”

A Light of Hope provides counselors and weekly support groups for people who deal with issues that range from alcoholism and drug dependency to depression and eating disorders.

On weekends, A Light of Hope holds activities for alternative peer groups that support sobriety and healthy living. Such activities include mountain biking, hiking, and broomball, which takes place every other month. During broomball nights, Light of Hope connects with youth groups of local churches.

Light of Hope mirrors their program after the Life Way program in Texas. Traurig says that Life Way’s success is such that at every alternative peer group they hold, hundreds of sober youth show up to show support. This is the vision that the Traurig’s hold for A Light of Hope.

In March, the center hopes to begin support groups for women’s issues and those dealing with eating disorders.

“Our mission is to provide support hope healing and freedom for families and for their young adult family member who is struggling with any sort of substance abuse or self destructive action,” Traurig said.

A Light of Hope’s Al-Anon group is held every Monday from 7:30 to 8:30. On Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30, the youth/young adult support group is held.

A Light of Hope Support Center is located at 21618 Golden Triangle Road, suite 105 and suite 207.
