Wilk Kicks Off COC Board Campaign

Appointed last year, Scott Wilk is getting an early start for the election

ImageGetting an early start, a fundraiser was held for Scott Wilk, who will be running for a spot on the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees.

The publicly elected position is one Wilk is already serving, although he came to his seat by way of special circumstances.

One year ago, Ron Gillis resigned from the Board of Trustees, and twenty three applicants vied to be appointed in his place. Wilk was eventually the one the Board chose to fill the vacancy, and in November, he will run for his first election.

As far as a platform is concerned, Wilk says that his biggest goal is to continue the great work that’s already being done. “I think we have the greatest community college in the nation and I want to continue to progress,” Wilk stated.

College of the Canyons is riding a streak of big accomplishments, including being noted as the fastest growing community college in the nation, as well as the ground breaking of their University Center and the opening of their new Canyon Country campus.

And now, as the college looks to the future, Wilk says that last year’s passage of Measure M brings an increased responsibility for Board members. “I want to make sure that we properly spend the Measure M funds.”

While the coming months will provide a more accurate picture of the candidates and their positions in the race, Wilk’s camp seems to have an early lead as far as donations are concerned. $25,000 was raised for Wilk’s campaign.
