Willie the Drummer Boy to be Unveiled at Veterans Plaza

Mayor and Veterans Committee to Dedicate New Art and Inscribed Bricks

The Veterans Historical Memorial Committee and the City of Santa Clarita will co-host a special Memorial weekend event on Saturday, May 27 at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Historical Plaza, located at 24275 Walnut Street in Old Town Newhall. The Memorial weekend event will include participation from the Veterans Historical Memorial Committee, the City of Santa Clarita, the Blue Star Moms and other veteran organizations. A special unveiling of Willie Johnston, the Civil War drummer boy icon, will be the centerpiece of the morning event.

Newly inscribed bricks that line the plaza’s pathways will also be in place for the event. The bricks are sponsored by family members of those who served in America’s armed forces over the years and include all of the major wars from World War I forward.
“We welcome everyone to join us on Saturday, May 27 to the Veterans Plaza for this important event,” commented Laurene Weste, Mayor.
