Wind, Icy Weather Expected To Hit Tuesday Night

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind alert for the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys, with cooler temperatures and snow levels dropping beginning Tuesday night.

A cold and vigorous low pressure system is expected to go southward across California and Nevada Tuesday with limited moisture. Snow levels are expected to lower rapidly on Tueday, falling to betwtee 4,000 and 5,000 feet, with the exception of Northern slopes, which could see snow around 3,000 feet.

Late Tuesday night, snow levels could drop to 2,000 feet near Kern County, but the freezing temperatures could bring the threat of black ice to interior portions of the forecast area.

Snow could accumulate along Interstate 5 near the Grapevine.

In addition to the cold temperatures and low snow levels, this system is expected to bring powerful winds with gusts of more than 70 MPH. The most favored locations will be the I-5 corridor and the passes and canyons of the Santa Barbara mountains, including the Santa Ynez range.
