More than 500 turn out for annual wine and food festival.
More than 500 people gathered in the main gallery at CalArts Saturday night for the annual Santa Clarita Valley Wine Classic, a fundraiser for the SCV Youth Orchestra.
As guests arrived, they were given a plate and wine glass and launched into a sea of gourmet delights, with more than 25 restaurants serving samples of their specialties and nearly 75 wineries and wine merchants pouring hundreds of varieties aimed at tempting – and pleasing – every palate.
In addition to the wines poured by the vintners and merchants, a selection of library wines – bottles from private collections that may be the last of their vintage or the favorite of symphony sponsors.
A silent auction was held during the event in a side gallery; wine- and food-related items were up for bid; bidders could also hope to win jewelry and fine art items, all raising money for the Youth Orchestra.
The orchestra is an instrumental instruction program based at College of the Canyons serving hundreds of young musicians, age 8 through college age. The group is in its 22nd year of existence and this event helps cover many of the orchestra’s operating costs, such as teacher stipends, music rental, instruments, music stands and scholarships.
