Winter Brings Cold Weather – Who Knew?

That wind and cold that surprised everyone this morning is predicted to continue through Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Periods of strong north winds will persist, with gusts between 60 and 70 MPH expected across the mountains, Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys, making travel dangerous for high-profile vehicles.

Most other areas will be windy as well, with wind advisories issued for gusts between 40 and 50 MPH.

Sub-freezing temperatures are possible Tuesday night. Isolated light snow showers are expected, with snow levels around 3,000 feet over the north slopes bordering Kern County. The icy conditions that closed the I-5 in both directions at the Grapevine could return, causing some traffic problems for people making their holiday getaways.

Cold air will settle over the area and under clear skies, sub-freezing temperatures will likely occur in wind-sheltered areas.

Temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s are expected and frost advisories are likely tonight.
