A woman was allegedly carjacked in North Hollywood and sexually assaulted in a Newhall parking lot on Sunday night.

According to Sgt. Ronald Price, the victim either picked up a rider or was carjacked by a man in North Hollywood who forced her to drive to a parking lot in the 23000 block of Newhall Avenue, using a knife to threaten her. She told deputies who found her alone in the parking lot around 11:30 p.m. Sunday that the man raped her while she was in her car, then pushed her out of the car and took off.

Deputies summoned medical aid for the woman, who was taken to the hospital. Price said that investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department would be handling the case, since the initial crime occurred in their jurisdiction.

He added that the suspect was described as a male Hispanic and the car was a silver Honda Accord. Both are still at large.
