Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports on a woman who hanged herself Sunday in a holding cell at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Homicide detective Jonas Shipe said that Sharon Lee Pritchard, 60, had been arrested Friday night after she created a disturbance at a storage facility.
“She was arrested for battery on a police officer after she hit a deputy with a door,” he explained. “It was a misdemeanor charge and she was scheduled to go to court for arraignment on Monday.”
According to Shipe, Pritchard created a noose from a county-issue blanket and hanged herself Sunday afternoon from a ventilation opening in her cell.
“She was in solitary, but as far as we know, she had no prior attempts and nothing led anyone to believe she would do this,” Shipe said.
The coroner is conducting toxicology tests to see if drugs or alcohol were involved.
