Ninety-year-old woman assaulted by facility employee.
A 90-year old woman was allegedly raped Sunday night at the Oakdale Heights assisted living complex on Lyons Avenue in Newhall.
Deputies arrested Jose Adurdo Vazquez, 20, of Newhall, a worker at the facility and held him on $500,000 bail.
Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station said that the district attorney filed charges of assault with the intent to commit a felony and attempted rape. Because of the victim’s age and physical condition, she was unable to consent. She was not injured in the assault, but was taken to the hospital for examination and returned to the complex Sunday night.
Vazquez appeared in San Fernando Court Thursday and will be returning Jan. 3 for arraignment. The judge raised his bail to $1,000,275.
Cambra said that the facility, which is owned by Oakdale Heights Management of Redding, California, is cooperating fully with investigators. Oakdale Heights owns and operates assisted living facilities in California, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oregon and New York.
Vazquez remains in custody at Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.
