World Wide Web Helps Detectives Nab Suspect

khts_crime_genericOn October 27, a suspect entered Ro, Ma Jewelers on Town Center Drive and was looking at a Tag Heuer watch valued at $6,000. Upon stealing the watch, the suspect ran out of the store.  

With the help of the store’s employees, detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were able to locate an identical watch for sale on the Internet. A detective made contact with the seller and set up a meeting to buy the watch. The seller suggested they meet at the Valencia Town Center Mall.

That meeting took place late Wednesday afternoon, where a detective met with the seller who was immediately identified as the suspect in the original theft from security videos supplied by Ro, Ma Jewelers.  

After the suspect showed the detective the watch, the detective verified the serial number. He then signaled the assisting detectives to make the arrest. When contacted, the suspect resisted and a struggle ensued, causing all involved to fall into a glass fragrance display case inside the Macy’s store, breaking the glass in the process.  

The suspect and two deputies received minor injuries in the struggle; all were treated at the hospital.  

The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Station for grand theft, burglary and forcibly resisting a police officer. He is currently being held on the indicated charges with a $25,000 bail.
