Yes I Can Fills Chronic Need

A local mentor program takes a bite out of fundraising.

"Yes I Can," a mentor program of the Hart District that pairs up special needs students with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome, with the general education population is having a unique fundraiser.

From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. January 24, Chronic Tacos will donate a portion of their proceeds to "Yes I Can," as the restaurant celebrates its "Grand Re-opening Party." The store was closed temporarily in August after its roof collapsed just after its grand opening.

The party will include autograph signing and entertainment emceeing by "Wee-Man" from the MTV show, "Jackass," as well as giveaways, and a live performance by local Reggae band "kounterfeit change" from 1-3 p.m. West Coast Customs will  be on hand to "pimp-out" the taco tour bus.

Within the mission of "Unity through music and education," students produce a "summer meltdown concert" at the end of the school year, incorporating local and large-scale bands, labels, staging, lighting and sound production to celebrate and shed light on the program's mission and accomplishments.

"A portion of the funds raised will go towards the "Yes I Can" program to produce the 6th annual summer meltdown May 16," said Bret Lieberman, program director of "Yes I Can."
