In short video, McKeon takes issue with key aspects of bill.
In an uncharacteristically agitated tone, Congressman Buck McKeon, who represents Santa Clarita and other areas to the north, had harsh words for the health care reform package, backed heavily by the Obama administration. Speaking before the House, McKeon urged his constituents and colleges to read the bill and see the real effects.
“Under the Majority’s misguided plan, Democrats propose $162 billion in cuts to the Medicare Advantage program that will result in the loss of health care choices for rural Californians in my district,” he said.
McKeon continued; “Americans should know that under the Democrat health care proposal at age 65 your doctor will be required to inform you of the proper steps to take to prepare for the end of your life, when you go in for a simple check-up. You may be in perfect health, but the government has decided that it is best to enter into the conversation between you and your doctor.”
The Obama administration has put steady pressure on Congress to act on the 1,000-plus page health care reform, although so far a number of Democrats have been reluctant to sign on.
For McKeon, the price tag and political ideal the bill carries is too much to swallow.
“The Democrat measure injects government into all of our private health care decisions, and drives the deficit up by trillions of dollars, passing on mountains of debt and a ruined health care system to our children and grandchildren. Let’s take the time to read this bill and give the American people the opportunity to learn how much this is going to impact their lives every day.”
