“You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” Comes To Thousand Oaks

“You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” is coming to the Fred Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza this February, as part of Cabrillo Music Theatre’s 2012-2013 season. The Tony Award-winning musical based on Charles M. Schulz’ popular comic strip has something for the entire family, including characters that children can relate to and that bring adults back to the days of their own childhood.

Performances start on Friday, February 8, 2013 and run until Sunday, February 17. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. There will also be several special events, including a cast discussion after the 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, February 9 and a signed performance for the deaf and hearing impaired on Friday, February 15.

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is directed by Cabrillo’s Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld and features musical direction by Dean Mora and choreography by Kirsten Chandler.

“This is a family show, not necessarily a children’s show,” says Wilkenfeld. “The Peanuts characters are kids, of course, and kids love them. But they deal with philosophy, psychology, sibling-rivalry, and even blanket-separation-anxiety. Trust me, there’s plenty for adults to enjoy, too. There’s a bit of these characters in every one of us.”

In keeping with Cabrillo’s tradition of showcasing young performers on the way to stardom, the performances will feature six talented cast members: Dane Biren (Charlie Brown), Reba Buhr (Sally), Zachary Ford (Snoopy), Todrick Hall (Schroeder), Jeffrey Scott Parsons (Linus), and Natalie Storrs (Lucy).

Cabrillo’s “Beyond the Footlights” outreach programs continue as well. In honor of Snoopy’s friends who have no home, Cabrillo’s Animal Rescue Program will be in full force during “Charlie Brown.” Rescue organizations with animals in need of loving homes will be outside the lobby at all performances. Cabrillo’s mission is to find a home for as many of these dogs as possible by the end of each performance.
