Youth in Government Luncheon

Youth in Government Culmination Luncheon- Tuesday, July 10, 2007

The City of Santa Clarita and Mayor Marsha McLean will celebrate participants of the Youth in Government Program at the Youth in Government Culmination Luncheon on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Activities Center, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.

The luncheon will celebrate the three week Youth in Government Program, which offers high-school-age students the opportunity to learn about local government structures, the tools of leadership, and the process of public policy.

The summer program includes a three week internship at City Hall and a workshop-style educational program.  As part of the educational program, participants prepare a “Mock” City Council meeting, where they discuss issues that affect the City and its youth. [view:node_ad=5]

The Visions in Progress (VIP)/Youth in Government (YIG) Summer Internship Program is an extension of a year-round program, focused on teaching students how local government works.

Visions in Progress participants provide input into major City projects, learn leadership skills, learn more about local government, meet local government officials and staff, interview for summer internships within the City, and explore their community and beyond.

For additional information, please call the City’s Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department at (661) 255-4965.
