Firefighters make progress as important highway is re-opened

With over 240,000 acres burned, the Zaca fire is one of the biggest Southern California fires in recent years. The fire is burning in the Los Padres National Forest, with smoke often times visible from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Highway 33 was forced to close due to flames along the roadway, however that closure has now been lifted. Traffic is allowed in both directions.

A recommended evacuation has been noted for Ozena, north to the Ventura/Santa Barbara county line.

[view:node_ad=5]The Zaca fire is currently 90% contained. Since it started on July 4th, 42 people have been injured, one outbuilding has been destroyed, and $105 million has been spent to battle it.
