Zonta International’s biannual convention held in San Antonio, Texas attracted more than 1,000 Zontians from around the world. 20 members of the local Zonta delegate are attending the convention and are awaiting the installation of club member Dianne Curtis as President of Zonta International.
Zonta Club of Santa Clarita President, Karla Edwards and President-elect, JoAnn Rodriguez are serving as the clubs voting delegates at the convention. Other club members attending the convention include Darleen Lyons, Barbara Stearns-Cochran, Pat Allen, Adele Macpherson, Jami Kennedy, Pat Willett, Sharon Dawson, Phyllis Walker, Nancy Albrecht, and Cindy Kittle.

Representatives of all Zonta International affiliate clubs paraded in ceremonial garb with the flag of their country in the opening ceremony for the Zonta International Convention. Keynote speaker, Dr.Caroline Hannan, who has worked extensively in and with the United Nations on gender equity, addressed the delegates at the opening ceremony.
In addition to business sessions, delegates enjoyed walks and boat cruises on San Antonio’s River Walk, visits to the historic Alamo, and rodeo and line dancing at Knibbe Ranch in the evening. A memorial service in the style of a traditional New Orleans jazz funeral was also held for members of Zonta International who have died within the past biennium.
The Zonta Club of SCV was invited to a special reception, open only to Zonta International’s most generous clubs. The SCV club gives more than 30 percent of its income to Zonta International to support their international services.
A closing banquet will be held in the grand ballroom of the Rivercenter Marriott Hotel where Curtis, will start her two year term as President of Zonta International.
