A Gem From The Nineteenth Century

By Jason Endicott

If you haven't paid a visit to Heritage Junction yet, I can highly recommend the trip. Located in William S. Hart Park on San Fernando Road, Heritage Junction houses some important Santa Clarita history. One piece of history currently located there is the Kingsburry House. Over 130 years old, this house was constructed in 1878 for Mr. J.O. Newhall at the corner of 8th and Spruce Street, where the Newhall Saugus Glass Company is now situated. J.O. Newhall was a cousin of Henry Mayo Newhall and the house changed ownership a couple of times before being purchased by Charles Kingsburry in 1945. Charles passes away in 1963, and his wife Ruth continued to live in the house until she retired at age 87. When Ruth died in 1982, the house changed hands one final time, being donated to the Santa Clarita Historical Society in 1987 by Realtor James Droz and Dr. Allan Fine. The house moved to Heritage Junction in 1989.

Various signage around the house lists the owner's last name as being spelled both "Kingsbury" and "Kingsburry".
