Jazz Fans To Get Their Fill At West Ranch Festival Print E-mail

Local jazz fans will get their fill of their favorite music during Super Jazz at the Ranch, coming Saturday, May 17, to WestRanch High School in Stevenson Ranch. Performances will be scattered across the campus from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and an all-day pass costs only $5.

The festival, organized by West Ranch jazz music director Robert Babko, will feature 32 bands from all over southern California. Jazz bands from all local high schools and two junior high schools also will perform for the judges.

Clinicians will include professionals Ira Nepus for a trombone clinic and Jeff Driskill for a saxophone clinic. A professional band led by well-known keyboardist Mitchel Forman also will perform, and Babko is working to obtain commitments from several college level bands to perform in outdoor venues during the day. Most of the competing bands will be performing in the gymnasium and library on campus.

Babko coordinated 10 such festivals while he was at Valencia High School and is looking forward to making the West Ranch festival an annual event as well.

All-day admission passes can be purchased at the door from the festival registration table.
