HELLO, NEIGHBOR: Tonight marks the first of five meetings with the Anaheim Ducks this season, and the first time the two clubs have faced each other since last season’s Western Conference Semifinal series. Anaheim has dropped each of their previous three games, one in overtime, and two in a shootout. The Ducks will be looking to pick up the first win of their current four-game home stand which ends tonight, where they’ve posted a 0-0-3 record so far.

SWEATER WEATHER: The Kings held an optional skate this morning in El Segundo prior to tonight’s game in Orange County. Players who took that option were Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter, Dustin Brown, and Jonathan Quick. Darryl Sutter noted following the skate that a few players were under the weather, but didn’t specify whom. As of now, no players have been counted out of tonight’s game, and the Kings are expected to ice a full roster with their newest addition.

MCBAIN IN THE MIX: The Kings signed free agent defenseman Jamie McBain to a two-way one-year contract worth the league minimum $550,000. McBain practiced with the Kings on Monday in El Segundo. Slava Voynov has been designated as a non-roster player to allow for the move. McBain had 17 points (6G, 11A) in 69 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season. In five games with the Manchester Monarchs earlier this season, McBain recorded a goal and two assists. McBain will wear #5 for the Kings.

DUCKS DOWN: Anaheim will be without forward Corey Perry and defenseman Francois Beauchemin tonight as they recover from viral gland infections. Perry has been out for the last three games; he was the NHL’s ‘Player of the Month’ for October, he had 11 goals in 13 games. The Kings dressed only 18 players Saturday night against Vancouver, but will have a full lineup tonight with the addition of defenseman Jamie McBain.

DON’T FRET FREDDY: Frederik Andersen will start in net for the Anaheim Ducks tonight. Andersen comes into the clubs’ first matchup of the season with a solid, but short track record against the Kings. In three career regular season starts against the Kings, all of which came last season, Andersen posted an impressive 3-0-0 record, stopping 94 of the 99 shots he faced. Andersen is 7-1-2 on the season, is 2nd in the NHL with a 1.56 GAA, and third in the NHL with a .943 SV%.

THE LAST TIME AROUND: In five regular season meetings against the Ducks last year, the Kings didn’t fare too well, going 1-3-1. The Kings’ only win, came in Martin Jones’ well-remembered NHL debut, when he turned away all Anaheim shooters in a nine-round shootout. The Kings won the game 3-2; Dwight King iced the affair scoring the only goal in the shootout. In the playoffs, the Kings beat the Ducks in seven games during Western Conference Semifinals series.
