HEAVY WINDS: Today marks the first of two meetings with the Carolina Hurricanes this season, the Kings will play host at STAPLES Center on November 20. Carolina was the final NHL team to secure a win, doing so Saturday night at home against the Arizona Coyotes with a 3-0 victory. The Kings have won five of their previous six games against the Hurricanes, dating back to October 17, 2008. This will be the fourth game of the Kings’ current five-game road trip. They’ve posted a 0-2-1 record on the journey.

11’S RETURN: Anze Kopitar is supposedly set to return to the Kings lineup today after being out three games to tend to an upper-body injury he suffered during the Blue Jackets game a week ago today. The Kings have gone 0-2-1 without Kopitar in the lineup, scoring just four goals during that span. Trevor Lewis remains good to go, and will play in his second game after returning to the lineup Friday night in Detroit. Marian Gaborik will remain a scratch, but shouldn’t be out too much longer.

THEY’VE GOT ONE: The Hurricanes finally earned their first win of the season Friday night against the Arizona Coyotes at PNC Arena. Youngster Eric Lindholm scored two goals and Cam Ward pitched a shutout, making 25 saves in the 3-0 win. Carolina was the last team in the NHL to record their first win; they were winless through their first eight contests (0-6-2).

ONE FOR THE ROAD: The Kings are similarly chasing what the Hurricanes were up until their win Friday night against Arizona. Instead, it’s not their first win of the season they’re looking for; it’s for their first win on the road. In their four games away from STAPLES Center this season, the Kings are 0-2-2, losing twice in overtime.

THE LAST TIME AROUND: In two meetings with Carolina last season, the Kings won both games. On October 11 of last season, the Kings’ previous stop in Raleigh, NC, they won 2-1 in a shootout. Dwight King scored the only goal in regulation, a short-handed marker late in the third, and Jeff Carter potted the game-deciding goal in the shootout. At STAPLES Center on March 1 of last season, the Kings won 3-1. Since the franchise moved from Hartford, Connecticut in 1997, the Kings are 4-2-2-2 against the Hurricanes at PNC Arena in Raliegh, NC.
