Val Verde Residents Ask County For More Time On Landfill Expansion

A group of Santa Clarita Valley residents who live near a landfill seeking permission from Los Angeles County to expand are asking county officials for more time and more bilingual support to consider the landfill’s expansion. The proposed Chiquita Canyon landfill expansion is undergoing the required public comment period, which is expected to end Sept. 23. The comment deadline has already been extended once, from its original date of Aug. 24.

Chiquita Canyon’s Val Verde Landfill Plan To Be Discussed In Castaic

Chiquita Canyon landfill expansion plans will be discussed Thursday night at the Castaic Sports Complex, giving Santa Clarita Valley residents having a chance to express concern or support for the proposed expansion landfill’s project. The landfill's proposal, which would double the waste footprint of the facility, has come under criticism from Val Verde residents living near the dump. One Val Verde association claimed dozens have complained, and another group considered the landfill “a good neighbor.”
