Newhall School Superintendent Marc Winger Announces Retirement Plans

Longtime Newhall School District Superintendent Marc Winger announced Friday his plan to retire in February, according to school district officials. Marc Winger told administrators, teachers and staff of his plans today in meetings, Winger said, of his plans to wrap up a 41-year career in education. Winger was named superintendent in 1997, it was a homecoming of sorts -- Winger was an elementary school teacher in the district for 10 years, starting in 1974.

Saugus Union Talks Bond Measure, Leadership, Back To School Night

Saugus Union School District officials are meeting over the next two days to discuss team-building, back-to-school nights and, most importantly, a bond measure and facilities need. Saugus Union officials are hosting an all-day management seminar at the district office Monday in Valencia from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Tuesday, the board plans to swear in David Powell at 7:30 p.m., whom board members nominated July 18 to replace Stephen Winkler. There will also be a bond measure discussion.

Santa Clarita Detectives Investigating Burglary, Vandalism At Pinetree

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives are investigating a July 22 report of vandalism and burglary at Pinetree Community Elementary School, officials said Wednesday. Six iPads were taken, a set of master keys was stolen and several doors were vandalized, according to Lynn David, assistant superintendent of business services for the Sulphur Springs School District. “The break-in was in the early morning hours,” David said. “It was discovered when our custodian came on campus -- and then he reported it to district personnel and law enforcement.”
