Fatal Big Rig Crash Kills Driver On I-5 Near Smokey Bear Road

A Sun Valley man was killed shortly after midnight Thursday after a big rig crashed into a Lincoln Towncar on Interstate 5, north of the Santa Clarita Valley. A sedan driven by Davonte T. Carr, 25, of San Jose, made an abrupt lane change at approximately 65 miles per hour, nearly colliding with the driver of a big rig, according to preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol. In response, the big rig driver reportedly took evasive action to avoid a collision, resulting in his truck jack-knifing and ending up on its side.

UPDATE: Big Rig Truck Spill Prompts Highway 126 Closure Near I-5

Emergency personnel are responding to a chemical spill on Interstate 5 near the Highway 126 interchange, officials said Tuesday. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies, California Highway Patrol officers and county Fire Department personnel have been on the scene since about 8:40 a.m. Traffic on Highway 126 is shut down in both directions, and there are multiple road closures, but I-5 remains open as officials work to clean up an acid spill. HazMat officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department are working on getting the road clear.
