Santa Clarita City Council members are set to approve Tuesday a new five-year contract likely to include more than $21 million of service from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is how services for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is funded. And the process that funds the Santa Clarita Valley’s law enforcement is part of about a yearlong negotiation, said Capt. Rick Mouwen of the Sheriff’s Department’s Contract Law Enforcement Bureau. The Sheriff’s Department finishes its previous five-year contract with the city of Santa Clarita in June, which is what prompted the negotiation process.

A Santa Clarita Valley family and their friends are hosting a fundraiser at Telly's Drive In in Castaic to help with memorial costs for Travis Stratton, a 4-year-old autistic boy who drowned Friday. After a two-hour search Friday, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies found Travis Stratton, 4, an autistic Castaic child, unresponsive in a pool. “As we were leaving the station, our air unit spotted the boy in a neighbor’s pool and directed deputies into the backyard,” according to a Facebook post from a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Search and Rescue Team. “Several deputies jumped into the pool, uniforms, guns, radios and all to get to the boy. They immediately began CPR on the unresponsive little boy.”
