Murderer Gets 40-Year Sentence In 2013 Acton Shooting

A Santa Clarita Valley man received a 40-year sentence Friday for the second-degree murder of Christopher Demyen, as several family members provided tearful testimony Friday at his killer’s sentencing in Lancaster.Scott Shipley, 57, of Acton, was found guilty back in April, after a brief trial. “I think that the verdict reached by the jury was the correct and just verdict and the sentence that the defendant received was just,” said Tom Trainor, deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County. "While no sentence can ever bring Demyen back to his family, this can hopefully provide them with some finality in this chapter of their life."

Gorman Body ID'ed, Renews Santa Clarita Valley Murder Investigation

While coroners are still working to determine the cause of death, a Los Angeles man believed to have been murdered and then dumped in Gorman was identified by Sheriff’s Department officials Monday. Homicide detectives are still investigating the situation as a murder. Ricardo Lopez, 32, of Los Angeles, is believed to have been shot in the head, perhaps as many as three years before fragments of his skeleton were identified July 15. Lopez, who lived in an area of Los Angeles known as Athens, near Imperial Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, was found with what detectives suspect was a gunshot in his skull.

Santa Clarita Deputies Arrest Suspect In Burglary, BB Gun Shooting

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a Santa Clarita man Wednesday night after responding to reports of a commercial burglary and a BB gun assault. Brandon Spencer, 22, of Canyon Country, was arrested on assault with a deadly weapon charges last night in Saugus. The investigation began after a report of a commercial burglary at a hobby store on the 25600 block of Bouquet Canyon Road, according to Sheriff’s Station arrest records. Several Airsoft-style guns were stolen from the store after it closed, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit deputies.
