Danielle Williams, a 12-year-old student at Santa Clarita Christian School, was selected to sing "America the Beautiful" at the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall on Thursday.

Winners of the Friendly Valley Veterans Club essay contest have been announced. Elementary school students answered the question "Why was the Vietnam War important to America?"

Bill Sickler, Doug Gadowski, John Cocco, George Charnock, Allen Karz, Karl Stein, Sum Tran and Art Vatz are only some of the doctors/nurses at Henry Mayo Hospital who served in Vietnam. They will be honored at the Traveling Vietnam Wall this weekend.

The American Legion Riders and the Patriot Guard Riders of American Legion Post 507 in Newhall, will be escorting the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall as it comes into Santa Clarita, ensuring that those who died receive a hero's welcome.

The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall is coming into the Santa Clarita Valley Wednesday afternoon, and will open to the public on Thursday. Several local officials and veterans from all walks of life will be speaking and honoring the fallen.

Dr. John Cocco, a medical ombudsman at Henry Mayo and Air Force veteran, recalls treating the wounded in Vietnam and the Philippines from 1968 to 1969. He will be present at the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall evening ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Mayor Bob Kellar, along with Assemblyman Scott Wilk and veteran Bill Reynolds, will be speaking at the opening ceremonies of the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall on Sept. 26. Kellar sees it as a way to thank local Vietnam veterans.

The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall is coming to the Santa Clarita Valley in less than a month, from Sept. 26 to 29, and there are still 80 to 100 volunteers needed to read the more than 58,000 names on the wall. Click through to sign up for your shift.
