A group of Happy Valley residents upset over a business that recently opened in their residential neighborhood brought concerns Tuesday to Santa Clarita City Council members. One of the business’s co-owners said he’s done everything he can to respect the neighbors and their concerns, and his sober living facility is operating within the confines of the law. Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District Discusses Sewer Rate Increase

Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District officials are “starting over” in their search for a new deep well site Wednesday, after protest from a Westside crowd wanting the county agency to look for a new plan altogether.

Santa Clarita Valley sewage officials formally introduced a rate hike Monday of $16 each year for the next six years in order to pay for a state-mandated chloride-compliance plan. “The goal has been to protect the Santa Clarita Valley ratepayer from substantial fines,” said Grace Chan, chief engineer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District. The move ended the state’s Proposition 218 hearing process necessary for a rate change, which is expected to be approved at a Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District meeting next Monday at Santa Clarita City Hall.

SCV Sanitation District Officials To Host City Hall Meeting Tonight

Sanitation District officials released their plan for an alternative chloride removal project at an upcoming meeting May 20.

Facing a fast-approaching deadline for chloride compliance, Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District officials are hosting a public hearing Monday night at Santa Clarita City Hall. The 6 p.m meeting is a culmination of months of public outreach by officials seeking feedback on their plan to raise rates to pay for state-mandated chloride treatment. The SCV Sanitation District, which is responsible for the treatment of the local wastewater, proposed fee increases of approximately $17 per year over the next six years, said Dave Bruns, assistant head of financial management for the Sanitation Districts.
