Your Skin: Don’t Sweat It!

Did you know that Botox has been approved by the FDA for reducing the amount of sweat from armpits? Not only this, but an injection of Botox can be used to improve armpit odor intensity and odor quality!

How can a product typically used for smoothing facial lines reduce body odor? There are two types of glands in the armpit: one that creates normal sweat and one that produces odor. People with overly sweaty armpits suffer from a condition called “hyperhidrosis”. Those with armpit odor (known as bromhidrosis) have overactive odor glands. Injection of Botox directly into the armpit will act to block the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. As a result, nerves that stimulate sweat glands and odor glands are deactivated. No sweat…no odor!

In a world dominated by audio-visual stimuli, the sense of smell is considered to be the most powerful of all senses. Odor receptors are connected to multiple specific areas of the brain and can immediately affect human emotions and behavior. Armpit odor of one person can influence functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, and brain wave activity in another person. Scientific studies have demonstrated that axillary (armpit) odor has significant impact on partner selection. In other words, the less offensive the odor, the greater the chances for romance!

Apparently, this is something celebrities have known for quite some time. The use of Botox injections into the armpits has been used by actors for over two years now. No wonder they look so calm when accepting an award.

Keep in mind that Botox is a medication and some providers may inject Botox with minimal physician supervision. Make sure your provider is knowledgeable, well trained, and has read the latest scientific study on this application.
