Castaic Union School District Seeking New Members For Measure QS Citizens Oversight Committee

The Castaic Union School District is currently accepting applications for its Measure QS Citizens Committee.

On Nov. 6, 2012, voters who live within the boundaries of the Castaic Union School District expressed their support for public education by passing Measure QS.

Measure QS is a Prop 39 school-facilitated bond that has been proposed to help modernize, add necessary technology upgrades, renovate and revitalize schools located in the Castaic Union School District, according to officials.

Funds generated from authorized bonds are set to be used for a variety of school district capital projects, added officials.

Projects are set to help the District in meeting its educational goals to educate the students in our community.

The District is required to form a Citizens Oversight Committee (COC) with a Prop 39 Bond Measure that is comprised of specified members of the community to assist the District in reviewing the expenditures of bond funds as they occur, according to officials.

The COC must include members of the community who would be appointed by the governing board of the school district.

The school district is seeking four new members as the board currently has two vacancies and two terms ending for other committee members.

Service is without compensation and the committee is expected to meet at least once a year but is scheduled to meet at least quarterly when there are active projects, added officials.

Employees of the district, district vendors, consultants and contractors who work for or provide services to the district may not serve on the committee.

Applications for membership on the committee must be submitted on the District’s Citizen Oversight Committee Application Form, according to officials.

The application form for Citizens Oversight Committee can be found on the District’s website

Application Forms can be returned via email to jphippen@castaicusd.com and must be received by 4 p.m. on April 28, added officials.

Applications submitted or received after the deadline may not be considered and under State law, the District cannot hold the completed applications as confidential documents.

The selection process for committee applicants is set to include a review of the applications and a possible interview by the subcommittee of the COC Board.

The final selection appointment of the members of the Committee are chosen by the Governing Board and is scheduled for May 11 at the Governing Board Meeting.

The application can be found on their website
