Three Providence Southern California, including Holy Cross Hospital, medical centers are the only hospitals in the state and among just 45 nationwide to make Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare for 2020, officials said Tuesday.

Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills made the prestigious list for the second straight year; and Mission Hospital, with campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach and St. Jude Medical Center, Fullerton; were included in the annual list of 150 health care organizations and support businesses, according to a statement released from Providence.

“We strive to provide patients with quality and compassionate care, but we’re just as committed to our caregivers, knowing the challenges they face each day,” said Erik Wexler, chief executive, Providence Southern California. “I’m grateful to our hospital leaders who promote dialog, transparency and recognition that encourages teamwork, especially now as we face the most challenging health care crisis in our lifetime.”

Modern Healthcare is a leading trade magazine for the healthcare industry, according to Providence officials.

Published weekly, it is the go-to for health care leaders, including hospital executives, consultants and support organizations, according to officials.

Its annual Best Places to Work list spotlights success in nurturing employee satisfaction, a true challenge this year as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our communities.

“How these organizations have navigated the COVID-19 pandemic is only part of the story; they were also scored on more traditional measures such as benefit design, transparent communication from leadership and others,” according to the magazine.

Providence offers a full range of benefits, wellness programs, opportunities for career advancement, tuition reimbursement and nurse shared governance to advance bedside care, according to officials.

Last year, Wexler budgeted $1 million for each of the 11 Providence hospitals under his executive direction to develop projects to thank employees, according to a Providence statement.

Modern Healthcare is expected to reveal the ranked order of the 150 Best Places to Work in Healthcare on Oct. 8 in conjunction with its virtual Workplace of the Future conference.
