When it comes to retirement, retirees need to factor in a few important retirement destination things. For instance, it is a good idea to look at the community for retirees, economy of the city and state, public transportation, community centers, retiree fun activities (casinos and golf courses), and the list goes on.

Why is Santa Clarita primed for retirees? There are a number of reasons, from the perfect weather to the senior community vibe. Let’s take a look at why retiring in Santa Clarita is trending.

Santa Clarita, California Basics

The city of Santa Clarita, California is located in north Los Angeles county with a population of a little bit less than 180,000. The city itself is a charming suburban community that has a bit of modern society with a touch of history.

As a retiree you may think that moving to a city with a median age of 37 is not all that great, but surrounding yourself with younger people is the best way to stay young in those golden years. However, you are still in good company, since 14 percent of Santa Clarita is over 62 and 11 percent is over 65.

The cost of living is above average in Santa Clarita, which include sales taxes, transportation, housing, and grocery, but the community in many ways outweighs the cost.

Activities Retirees Can Enjoy

Many people over the age of 62 retire in Santa Clarita simply because they are from the area already. Why leave a place that has the perfect climate year-round, especially if you already have roots in the city.

There are a lot of activities retirees can enjoy, including historic home tours, recreation areas, and even a Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park! Well maybe just golf, which Santa Clarita has too. There’s also bowling, the cinemas, national parks, lake activities, tennis, plenty of walking paths, and yearly events and concerts.

Housing For Seniors In Santa Clarita

One of the biggest benefits of Santa Clarita, California retirement is housing. There are tons of housing options for retirees, and not all are senior living communities. Adult communities, affordable housing, assisted living, condos, gated golf communities, RV parks, rentals, and over 50 communities are all up for grabs.

If you already live in the community, you can leverage your home to help increase your retirement funds. You can rent out that pool house (after renovation) on Airbnb, as well as get a Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) from reverse.mortgage if your over 62 and have a single family home.

Weather Is Wonderful

To enjoy retirement, weather makes a difference. Luckily the weather in Santa Clarita is perfect year-round. During the summer, temperatures can reach 90’s, but cools off significantly at night with lows in the 50’s.

The spring and fall are ideal with highs in the mid-70’s and lows in the mid-50’s. Winter of course is a bit cooler, but the summer sun makes it feel warmer. Highs in the winter are in the 60’s with temperatures dropping to 30’s in the evenings.

The main bonus of retirement in Santa Clarita is the sun. Getting those daily doses of vitamin D can be definite cure for retirees looking to soak up a bit of well-deserved sunshine while enjoying a round of golf or afternoon walk.

In Conclusion . . .

Retirement is a time in life when you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the little things without the stresses of work, kids, and more. Santa Clarita provides everything to take a load off and more.

Retirees with grandkids will also find the community perfect. When the grandkids come to visit, there are plenty of activities and sightseeing you can enjoy with them. For example, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner with tons of events being hosted in the community, by the community.

The number of senior resources are exceptional in the area and this is a compelling draw for retirees, whether those who already live in Santa Clarita, or future retirees ready to enjoy everything Southern California has to offer.

  1. The summers are hellish. 110 plus .degrees. No one can stand that, least of all retirees. Not everyone is happy or safe, or healthy in SCV.
