Epic Games Sued For Fortnite User Data Leakage

People from all over the world are suffering from the malicious actions of cybercriminals, and Fortnite players are not the exception. Epic Games has received a class-action lawsuit from over 100 people. The company was accused of failing to protect Fortnite players’ data, allowing hackers to steal it.

This is not the first time the personal data have been stolen, but it is probably a good time to think about your cybersecurity both when playing or spending your rs3 gold purchased at https://www.rpgstash.com/runescape/rs3 and to make sure that your private confidential info is secure.

What is the Case?

A security breach was discovered by Check Point back in November. Hackers only needed to force the player to follow the phishing link to intercept the necessary information and gain access to the victim’s account.

Due to security flaws, attackers gained full access to accounts, including bank cards tied to them. Users had to take action on their own. The lawsuit said that players changed passwords and blocked cards themselves, while Epic Games did not even notify the victims about a hacker attack. The victims demand compensation from the company, but the amount is still unknown. Neither lawyers nor Epic staff has yet commented on the situation.

Have Epic Games Fixed the Situation?

Yes. At the beginning of 2019, Epic Games announced that it had successfully fixed a vulnerability that allowed it to access important information, including credit and debit bank cards tied to the game. However, this did not save the developer from a class-action lawsuit. American law firm Franklin D. Azar & Associates encouraged gamers to join the “fight for a decent compensation.” According to them, players had to resort to additional security measures at their own expense to minimize the possibility of a hack in the future. This includes locking/unlocking a credit card from Epic Games account and changing passwords. Some players have lost money due to scammers.

Who is Responsible for the Leakage?

Recently, cybercriminals from Raidforums hacked into another hacker’s website Cracked.to and released more than 321,000 members of the attacked group. Before hacking, cybercriminals from Cracked.to discussed the possibility of compromising Fortnite accounts, selling exploits and other cybercriminal activity. Thus, a dump database containing 749,161 unique email addresses was published on Raidforums.com. Published data also included hashed IP addresses, usernames, private messages, and passwords.

The Cracked.to resource positions itself as a forum providing hacking instructions and related tools. Researchers examined a merged database taking 2.11 GB and found that it contained nearly 397,000 private messages. These messages included the names, email addresses, and IPs of people trying to buy and sell software to hack accounts of the popular Fortnite game fans.

Have you ever been hacked by cybercriminals? Despite the response, make sure you are protected now to avoid any troubles.
