Initial Fears and What to Expect – November 30, 2020

On this episode of the Insight Treatment Hour, Lisa Dixon, Admissions Director at Insight Treatment, joins Frederik Schulin, Owner of Insight Treatment, to talk about initial fears and what to expect when you reach out to Insight Treatment. As the Admissions Director at Insight, Lisa talks to nearly everyone that enrolls in Insight’s treatment programs, and she shares some of the common feelings and fears that parents have when they first reach out. Feeling overwhelmed, scared, angry, like there’s no control left, or like there’s no hope are all among the most common emotions and feelings displayed during the initial conversation. Lisa stresses that this is to be expected and to not worry about feeling or expressing these emotions because that is exactly why you are calling. Lisa talks about how these common emotions shouldn’t make you feel ashamed or prevent you from reaching out, but should remind you that you are not alone in your struggle, especially when joining the Insight family. Addiction can change a person’s or teen’s life in a number of ways, and most of these behavior shifts are noticeable in teenagers. Lisa provides information on a number of topics to help parents who may be struggling with the idea of reaching out for help, and encourages parents (and the teens themselves too!) to reach out no matter what. Lisa also gives a look at what parents can expect in the first couple of weeks at Insight and highlights how different each and every family’s journey to recovery is. Although there may be similarities, every family has its own path, and that path always has a way to recovery and regaining a healthy and happy family dynamic for the teens and the parents.
