Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested 14  on Friday night during two DUI and driver’s license checkpoints.

Friday’s checkpoints, conducted between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., were located on Bouquet Canyon Road at Wellston Drive in Saugus, and Whites Canyon Road at Delight Street in Canyon Country.

Of the 14 arrests, two were DUI-related and one was a result of suspected narcotics possession. The remaining  were related to driver’s license charges and other violations.

These checkpoints are expected to occur several times throughout the year and are intended to decrease the number of drunk and impaired drivers on the road, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s Department officials advise drivers to avoid the unwanted results of a DUI stop by arranging rides home, rewarding designated drivers with free nonalcoholic drinks and limiting the drinks of people who intend to drive home.

Those who notice drunk drivers, at any time of the day, should call the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department at 255-1121, or report a drunk driver anonymously with “LA Crime Stoppers” at 800-222-TIPS.
