Are Canadians Truly The World’s Nicest People? Let’s Find Out

Many countries around the world are known to be welcoming to visitors, but apparently, Canadians take it a notch higher. For starters, they’re known to be the world’s friendliest people. They live peacefully and supportively with their neighbors and are always interacting with people from all walks of life over social media and other online platforms. While some may regard them as naive and unfailingly courteous, many celebrate and appreciate Canadians for the enormous generosity, calmness, and niceness.

So if you only thought they’re just huge hockey fans who are super okay with cold weather, here are some probable reasons why Canadians are truly the world’s nicest people.

Drivers Will Wave To Say Hi

How many times has a stranger waved at you from the other car while driving along a busy highway? Once? Never? Well, you might think it’s a tradition, but you’ll be surprised at how many waves you’ll get from other drivers along a Canadian road, especially in areas such as Prince Edward Island and Vancouver. As a matter of fact, Prince Edward Island police recently warned drivers against waving at cars from opposing traffic, saying that the habit has led to an increase in the number of accidents. Well, it might sound a bit absurd, but niceness can also lead to a road accident. The good thing is that in this area of the globe, personal injury laws are also quite fair as well. The personal injury lawyers in Vancouver say that if you’re injured in an accident, it is important to work with injury attorneys who have your best interests at heart. A good injury attorney will help you pursue your compensation claim or even represent you in court if there’s a suit and the case goes to trial.

Social Media Surveys Show It

In a recent study by a reliable survey company about how people from different nations interact with others globally, the analysis revealed that on twitter, Canadians are the friendliest people in the world. The study also showed that compared to users from other countries, Canadians engage in more conversations (about 9.3 with Twitter users that are not from home.

Nice and Polite Locals

This is one of the reasons travelers from around love visiting Canada… They are extremely courteous and nice locals. Apart from the numerous attractions in this country, one of the things that fascinate travelers most about Canada is its natives’ politeness and positivity. No wonder the country has since time immemorial been in many jokes about being ‘too nice’. More interestingly, some comedians critique arguments amongst Canadians for being too polite.

Words’ Choice

Needless to mention, one of the ways you can gauge a person’s niceness is through their utterances. The words you choose to use when speaking will go a long way in portraying your nature, character, and personality. Well, as far as words are concerned, Canadians will always mind their Ps and Qs. Before they speak, most Canadians think about the impact their words will have on the person being addressed. It’s either that or it’s naturally in their blood to use friendly and non-insulting words, alongside sweet ones like great, amazing, wonderful, awesome in conversations. Sorry, Thanks, and you’re welcome are automatically more frequent. This is unlike conversations involving Americans and Brits, where curse words and negative words are no big deal.

A Happy Wealthy Nation

Canada is also a happy, wealthy, and healthy nation. It’s actually one of the wealthiest nations in the world, which is perhaps why crime rates are low and a majority of its citizens are comfortable with their lives. This is not to forget that Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary were all in the list of the world’s most liveable cities in 2019. There’s also lots to see and do in Canada, including winter sports, the Niagara Falls, amazing landscapes, and plenty of attractions.

Neighboring the World’s Giant

Now, Canada shares its borders with the world’s most powerful nation, which as anyone can expect, has it all figured out. Being the world’s superpower, it can be argued that most American citizens are spoiled and don’t care about being kind. Living next to a powerful giant that could turn on you and crush you any minute, could as well explain why Canadians are extremely nice and humble. Additionally, the fact that they’re located just next to a considerably selfish neighbor makes them automatically look nicer by comparison.

Toronto traffic

Finally, Canada is used to experiencing extremely cold winters, with temperatures getting as low as -40 degrees. Under these conditions, people have learned to be nice and support each other, perhaps as a mutual survival instinct. We may not have exhausted all the reasons why, but we’ve looked at just enough to say that Canadians are truly the nicest people in the world.

Are Canadians Truly The World’s Nicest People? Let’s Find Out

  1. I have met and interacted with at least 20 canadians, both in Europe and Canada, and ALL of them have been rude and complaining jerks. They all have an attitude and think they are the best. They are very racist, despite what they want you to believe. Not at all a fan.

    • If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all! You only met some people who could have been in a rush, and i could find PLENTY of Americans that are rude and self-centered. There are good people and bad people; some of use are nicer than others though. You can’t judge a country by a few people.

    • I STRONGLY disagree!
You shouldn’t be judging a whole country based on a handful of people!
In all the countries, there will always be someone who’s rude, complaining, has an attitude, thinks they’re the best, and racist. So no matter where you go, there will always be someone who doesn’t have the same manners as you.
And as you probably know, whoever you’re like, that’s the people you’ll most likely draw.
Anyways, I just wanted you to know how I personally feel about the comment. So you know, I am not trying to be mean or anything, I just wanted you to know how I feel. Well, G-d bless you, and remember, YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO GIVES YOU STRENGTH!

  2. Having lived in serval places in the world, UK, USA, Ireland, and now Canada, I can hands down say that Canadians (well mostly Ontario and the GTA Toronto area) are not nice. I Can say my experience of Canadians is not that of the friendly Canadian, I find them Rude, Unfriendly, and passive aggressive, never get a hello or can talk with a stranger. if you do talk to a stranger, they get nervous and wont engage.. Also very unmannered, open a door for someone and no thank you….. So the Stereotype is way off…. It is better in the smaller towns when you travel, but that’s the same everywhere.. And Canadians have a major inferiority complex to Americans and they always talk negatively about them, and this comes up all the time. America is a much friendlier place by far….. just saying..

    • Yep, I’m from California and totally agree. Myself and my spouse (from UK) are stunned by the level of indifference we face daily. I live in a condo building and rarely will anyone make a second of eye contact for a quick nod or hello and forget about interactions in the street…..and I am a very chatty and smiling type. Will leave when I am able….

    • Canadians are a mix of really nice people and total jerks, just like anywhere else. But yes, we can be very passive aggressive. It’s considered too impolite to come right out and confront somebody for their rudeness or lack of consideration of others. Instead, they will freeze you out!
There are unwritten uses that must be followed, but people won’t tell you when you’ve broken them, they’ll just avoid interacting with you as much as they can.

  3. It is a shame that you both had such experiences with a few Canadian. I am an immigrant Canadian for 32 years and have traveled many countries of the world. Canada is my home and I am a proud Canadian and Torontonian. Canadians inferior? No, it is quite, gentle confidence. We are mostly open minded people who are willing to help. Americans are our siblings, we may grumble with each other but we are family. Just saying. 🙂 Anyways, the next time you encounter a Canadian, do so with openness and respect and you will receive the same in return. Wishing you all the best!

  4. I have been to Victoria , Canada and I loved it
