Best Places To Live In Maryland

Maryland is one of the most beautiful states in the country. With beautiful, snowy winters, winding coastline vistas, excellent healthcare, and a red hot real estate market, it’s no wonder so many people want to live here! Now, if you’re considering a move to Maryland, you may be wondering: what are the best cities in the state? What city is best to raise a family in? What city is best if I want to invest in real estate? If you want to find the answer to these questions, keep reading!

What makes a town a good place to live?

While the task of ascertaining which cities are the best to live in among all the cities in any particular group may seem easy, it’s actually a bit more difficult than it initially appears. The reason for this, of course, is that the “quality” of any given town is at least partially subjective, and depending on the personal preferences and priorities of the person making the move.

Let’s put this into simple terms. If you are, say, a single person in your twenties, you might prefer a larger, busier city over a smaller one with lower crime rates, in order to take advantage of the superior career opportunities or social scene. However, if you are in a relationship and have children, you may choose the smaller, quieter town for its increased safety and better education system. For this reason, we’ll be ranking cities based on their excellence in individual characteristics i.e. crime rates, job availability, culture, etc. With that out of the way, let’s get into it!

Bowie: most family-friendly city in Maryland

Bowie MD is a picturesque city between Washington DC and Annapolis Maryland, located in the midst of the gently rolling hills typical of central Maryland. With a laid back atmosphere, steadily rising real estate values and exceptionally low rates of both violent crime and property crime, this town is perfect for parents looking for a safe place to raise their kids. Additionally, the education system in Bowie  is excellent, and standardized testing results show higher than average scores across the board.

With such low crime rates, moving here may seem like a no brainer if you have kids, but you might want to wait a minute before deciding to relocate to Bowie MD. All these positive qualities come at a price; living in Bowie is expensive. Everything from housing to food to gasoline is expensive, and this sets an imposing financial barrier to entry for those with tighter financial situations.

If this seems like the town for you, you’ll need to find top ranked real estate agents in Bowie MD. Once you’ve secured a good real estate agent, you’ll be well on your way to making your home in one of the most family-friendly cities in New England!

Baltimore: capital city and thriving job hub

If you’re looking for a more metropolitan place to set down roots, Baltimore might just be the place for you. With a bustling social and cultural scene and excellent job availability, Baltimore has all the things that a young, single person might look for in a city.

The city of Baltimore also boasts excellent education opportunities, as it is home to the prestigious Johns Hopkins Medical School! If you are considering a medical career, that’s another excellent reason to choose Baltimore! Moreover, the city offers a variety of accommodations, including hotels near the Biltmore Estate, ensuring a comfortable stay for visitors.

Now, as with the previous city, there are a couple of caveats. One, Baltimore is a fairly large city; if you don’t like crowds and tight city streets, it might not be for you. Another thing to keep in mind is crime; while crime rates aren’t as bad as in certain other cities in the United States, the crime rates are high enough to cause families to consider to relocate. If you aren’t deterred by either of these things, Baltimore might just be the place for you.

Havre de Grace: Beautiful city on a budget

If you don’t have the budget to live in Bowie or the inclination to live in Baltimore, you might just find what you’re looking for in the little city of Havre de Grace. Havre de Grace is located on the Chesapeake Bay, and those seeking a quiet town with a low cost of living will find exactly that in Havre de Grace.

There isn’t much negativity one can say about this little town; the only complaint you might have is that it’s too peaceful and quiet! It also has reasonably low crime rates and acceptable schools, so if you have children but don’t have the budget to move to a wealthier city like Bowie, Havre de Grace strikes a good balance between affordability and security.

I think that we’d all agree that the state of Maryland has numerous towns that are great for any number of different types of buyers. Whether you’re looking for an inexpensive place to live, a great place to raise your family or just a hip town with a ton of fun things to do, you’re sure to find all of those within this amazing state. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and find the city that’s right for you!
