Cool Places To Eat In Southern California

Southern California is home to some of the country’s very best restaurants, with many famous eateries that have garnered their reputations on culinary excellence. While there are plenty of fine dining spots, there are also some renowned fast food joints and just about everything in between.

The Original In-N-Out, Baldwin Park

About 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles in Baldwin Park, you’ll find the very first In-N-Out, famous for serving some of the best burgers in the nation. It’s also credited as the first drive-thru restaurant, founded back in 1948 by Harry and Ester Snyder. Because they couldn’t afford a property large enough for a parking lot and carhops, they added a speaker-equipped drive-thru instead. Today, it’s not only a must-stop among burger enthusiasts, using only fresh ingredients that come from no farther than 500 miles away, but it’s one of the most popular spots for a selfie in Southern California.

Craig’s, West Hollywood

For an unforgettable splurge that won’t cost you a mortgage payment, and the chance to do some star spotting, head to Craig’s in West Hollywood. It offers a delicious menu featuring American fare from seafood and steaks to vegan dishes and pizza, as well as being popular among celebrities. In fact, it’s often ranked at the top of lists of the best places to see your favorite stars. Just some who’ve dined here in recent years include George Clooney, Ryan Phillippe, Joe Jonas, Sarah Silverman, Courteney Cox, Sandra Bullock, Hugh Jackman and Kate Upton.

Mariscos German Taco Truck

Southern California is home to countless delicious food trucks and Mariscos German Taco Truck, parked in the San Ysidro neighborhood of San Diego, is famous for serving some of the best fish tacos north of the Mexican border. It’s often named as the best place to get a taco in the city, with generously sized offerings that include fresh battered pieces of fish fried to golden perfection and topped with a creamy sauce. Happy customers often recommend the Baha Trio which includes one shrimp taco, a marlin taco and a fried fish taco, enjoyed with coconut juice sipped right from the coconut, or a cheap cerveza.

Pink’s

For hot dogs, there’s no better place than the original Pink’s stand on La Brea, “a Hollywood legend since 1939.” It’s been featured in films and TV shows, from the Travel Channel to the Food Channel, and has a long list of celebrity patrons. In the dining room, you’ll see its celebrity wall of fame which began as a spot for would-be actors to hang their photographs to be discovered by directors and producers who were known to patronize the place. Today there are more than 200 photos of celebs with their signed endorsement. The hot dogs are named after local legends and Hollywood stars, from the Huell Howser to The Brando. Bite into a classic dog or a chili dog, smothered with cheese, chili, onions and mustard, and you’ll quickly understand why it’s been the most famous hot dog stand in Southern California since opening eight decades ago. Prepare for a long wait, with lines filled with tourists during the day and clubgoers at night.
