How Do You Know If You’re Wearing The Right Bra Size?

Most women don’t realize that they need to re-measure their bra size every 6 months. Getting an accurate measurement means more than just your cup size. There are other factors you need to assess to get an accurate measurement for the right bra size. Wearing an ill-fitting bra does not only mean you will be stuck with something uncomfortable to wear, but it may also lead to serious health issues.

An ill-fitting bra can cause breast tenderness, back pain, sagging, skin rash, and even breast cancer. If you want to avoid health complications, feel comfortable, confident, and at ease, you need to wear the right bra for you. But how exactly do you know if you are wearing the right one?

Check out these handy tips below to find your perfect fit.

Signs You Are Wearing the Wrong Bra

Before you can identify the right fit, you have to know what to avoid. If your straps are slipping and moving throughout the day, no matter how hard you try to adjust it, then you are wearing the wrong type of bra. Another common issue is when your bra straps start digging into your shoulders, which means that your bra cup is too small. If the bra cup is too small, you might notice spillage and gape. The underwire should not sit on your breast as well. More importantly, if your bra does not offer any level of support at all, then it is time to get a new one.

Bra Cup

The right cup size should perfectly form to the curve of your breast for it to be able to hold your breast. If your breast is pushed out of your armpit or outside the cup, you are wearing a bra that is too small for you. If you bend forward and notice gapes, then the bra is too big for you. When you shop online, a good way to find underwear that is perfect for any woman is to read reviews of all ratings to see if a product is a comfortable fit for other individuals with different needs and preferences. You can also consult a bra fitting expert, just make sure to voice your concerns for the professional to help get you a bra that you are fully comfortable with. There must not be any spillage, gaping, or digging.

If you notice side or cup spillage, consider getting a half or fully larger bra cup size. It is common and normal for women to have different breast size and shape. To avoid wearing bras that fit unevenly, go for a larger cup size and just add a removable bra padding on the smaller breast. On the other hand, if you have straps that are slipping, consider going down a cup size. For underwire bras, make sure that the wire lays flat against your body and between the breast.

Band

The band is the most important part of your bra as it is the one that offers support. You have to remember that bras do not last forever, so once you find that it no longer offers ample support, it is time to get a new one. When shopping for your new bra, look for the right band size. It must form a straight line around your body and must not ride up your back. If it does get pulled at the back, loosen the adjustments of the shoulder straps. Additionally, you can adjust the hook and eye of your bra or go down a band size. The right band size should feel comfortable and snug against your body. It should even fit snuggly even in the shortest hook. Your band will continue to stretch over time, so when picking out bras make sure to select the one that still fits snuggly even on the loosest hook.

The Strap

Wearing the right bra size means that the strap should remain on your shoulders. It should be secure enough, but not too tight. If it leaves marks on your shoulders or feels constricting, then you are likely wearing it incorrectly or wearing the incorrect size. Your straps are designed to keep your cups in place and not provide support. If you are relying on your strap for support, then you are wearing the wrong type or size of bra.

Wearing the wrong bra size can lead to pain, discomfort, and serious health problems. To find the perfect bra for you, you must check its strap as well as its cup, and band size. If you find it difficult to get the right measurement on your own at home, personal consultation with a bra fitting expert is strongly recommended.
