How Is The LA Dodgers’ MLB Title Defense Going So Far And Can They Retain The Crown?

Sports is a big deal around the whole of Los Angeles County. As you would expect, this means that it is something that most people in Santa Clarita also love to get involved with. As the city of Los Angeles is so close, it means that residents have a great choice of well-known pro sports teams to support. From the Lakers to the Rams, you will never be short of great sporting action in the region.

Of course, baseball is also big around Los Angeles County and Santa Clarita. One team that get plenty of support in the local area are the LA Dodgers. This was particularly true during last season when they clinched a thrilling MLB title. Time marches on in sports though, and this now means that fans of the Dodgers are fully focused on this season and what is happening in 2021/22.

Keeping abreast of the team’s progress is not only interesting but also crucial if you like to bet on them. Getting into the habit of finding the latest news and best odds means that you can make more informed bets for greater value. For a trusted source of MLB news and odds, bestodds.com is a smart choice. This site not only brings all the information you need together in one place but is also easy to use.

The main focus for Dodgers fans at the moment is how the season has progressed so far, how their title defense is going, and whether they can retain the title. But how is all this shaking down?

LA Dodgers’ title defense so far

The current season kicked off in April 2021 and is due to run until early November 2021. Naturally, fans of this LA-based side hope that they can go all the way again and retain their title. How has this quest gone so far though?

It has been an up and down start in truth. The side came into the campaign off a dominant previous season and with star player Trevor Bauer added to the line-up. This led many fans to think that they could make a historic bid to defend their crown. A roaring 13-2 start to the 2021/22 season kept this level of optimism high.

But then reality bit – or more pointedly, injuries and poor form crept in. This saw the Dodgers’ results nosedive and a 7-15 run racked up. Recent games (such as the LA Dodgers 4 – Arizona Diamondbacks 2 result) have seen them bounce back to give fans hope again though. Sitting mid-table in the NL West to date, they really need to continue their strong recent form to push up the rankings.

Can the Dodgers retain the MLB title?

There is no doubt that the side have shown flashes this year to suggest they can. It is still early days in the MLB campaign, so the team have plenty of time to get key players back from injury and pick up more wins. Although pitcher Dustin May is a big long-term miss, other injured players should be back to help at some point. It is also key to point out that this group of players is largely the same who won so well last year and have the experience to cope.

Why are some fans not so confident about them retaining their title in the 2021/22 season though? The first reason is that it is hard to achieve and not many teams manage it, however good they are! In fact, in the last 20 years, only five sides have won their division after winning the title. This does not bode well for the Dodgers. Many fans are also worried about the lack of offensive depth in the bullpen, which may be their undoing as the season wears on. With the Giants and the Padres also seemingly upping their game this season, it may not be all plain sailing.

Defending a World Series is tough

The bottom line for fans of the team around Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County is that defending a World Series title is never easy. Other teams around you up their game to compete and you are the team that everyone suddenly wants to beat. When you throw in the injuries and poor form that the Dodgers have suffered from at times so far, it has proved challenging. However, with such an elite group of players and the same management structure in place, you would not bet against them being in the mix come playoff time.
