How to Declutter Your Home Fast

You probably have a lot of stuff that you don’t use cluttering up your house. You may not even realize how much space everything is taking up in all your various rooms until you take a break from your busy schedule to declutter them.

Once you have a plan in place, schedule a time to declutter your home. You may want to set aside a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday, or you may prefer to declutter for 30 minutes every day.

Decide which areas of your house you want to declutter first. If you have a lot to do, it might be best to tackle one room at a time.

People procrastinate when it comes to decluttering because they don’t know what to do with their things. Here are some suggestions to resolve that obstacle.

What to do with Things You Might Need Later

Think about storing things that you don’t want to donate, recycle, or throw away, but that assumes a lot of space. For instance, if you spent about $2,000 on a NordicTrack treadmill that takes up most of your bedroom space, but you can’t use it because you’re too busy at work or recuperating from an illness, you can put it in storage until you can start working out again in three to six months.

A public storage facility is available in almost all cities in our state. Most storage units are similar, but climate-controlled units are also available. The storage units in San Diego, for instance, are climate-controlled because the city is near the coast where humidity can be a problem. A high humidity level can lead to mites, molds, mildews, and wood rot.

What to do with Bulky Things You No Longer Want

It’s difficult to get rid of things that take up plenty of space, like electronics, scrap wood, furniture, tires, and appliances. If these items are in good condition, they could go to a salvage company or a secondhand store.

If, however, you have too much stuff and not enough space to store it, then you might want to contact your local government’s trash services. Some towns or cities will allocate certain trash, and recycling centers to allow certain items like construction materials or appliances or electronic waste. Check with your local government to see what items. In Santa Clarita, for example, there are authorized trash and recycling centers where you can get rid of anything, from lumpy mattresses to recliners for free, without resorting to trashing your backyard or neighborhood.

What to do with Nice Things You No Longer Use

Those small, useful items you no longer want can either be donated to a local charity or recycled. However, you go about it, be intentional and clear about what you no longer like or find useful.

Whether you’re decluttering to downsize or simplify your life, being thoughtful about the steps you take will increase your chances of decluttering your home successfully.

The Benefits of Organizing Your Space

You’ll be amazed at how relieved you’ll finally feel to get rid of all that clutter. Your house might even seem more spacious. Before you know it, your home will be more organized and a more inviting place for your family to enjoy more.

Organizing your home has countless benefits. It can even make you happier, more productive, and more successful.

You won’t, of course, always find it easy to declutter your space. The temptation to keep everything “just in case” can be strong, but decluttering your home is worthwhile. You’ll not only feel better mentally and emotionally, but you’ll also find it easier to stay organized about everything and achieve your life goals. You might be surprised by how much decluttering can clear your mind and improve the quality of your life.
