How To Keep Your Trees Safe From Being Destroyed By Harmful Pests

You are probably eager to watch your garden grow more and more. You become happy when your plants are healthy and fruitful. That’s why it is so frustrating when you wake up one day to find out that some of the trees are dead. It is going to be shocking and you may feel that all of your efforts went down the drain. So, it is better to know how to protect your garden against harmful insects that can cause harm to the trees and eventually lead to their death.

Planting the Right Way

Before laying down any seeds in the soil, you need to make sure of meeting the conditions that different kinds require to grow. If a tree that needs extra wet soil is planted in dry soil, it will exhaust itself to fulfill its needs, so it will be incapable of fighting off pests.

It is advisable to grow various kinds of trees, shrubs, and flowers because when a certain type of insect attacks a field, they can wipe it all out. Diversity will ensure that you will have some kinds left and also provide a colorful and beautiful landscape.

Prevention and Regular Inspection

Taking the necessary precautions from the beginning is a must. You should make sure that the plants stay properly hydrated because desiccation leads to the formation of cracks in the branches, and so they become more susceptible to infection. Moreover, trimming and grooming allow sunlight and fresh air to reach all parts of the tree. It is necessary to remove old dead fruits and get rid of fallen leaves because they attract pests and act as a septic focus.

The best way to prevent any disease from progressing is by early detection. You have to regularly monitor your trees for any signs that indicate the presence of an insect. At first, the pests’ colonies are few and scattered so they can be easily eradicated. If they form colonies and swarms, they will be a pain to get rid of.

Identifying Pests and Ways to Deal With Them

Signs of infections differ from one species to another. You will have to dedicate some of your time to check the trunks, leaves, and soil. We will give you some information on the most common pests that are a true nuisance for you and your greeneries.

Boxelder Bug

These bugs are incapable of destroying fruits and vegetables, they do some controllable damage. On the other hand, they pose huge trouble for the household as they creep into the house through tiny openings in windows and doors. So, once you notice curling in the leaves or that the crops are uglier than usual with some depressions, you have to consider that these bugs are going to crawl into your place.

First of all, you have to close all of the slits and cracks that may allow the entrance of the Boxelder bugs. You can use the same insecticidal soap that kills other insects while dealing with these swarms. It may be necessary to spray them multiple times until they either die or run away. If they have already made their way in, clean the whole place, and remove any rugs that they can hide under.

Scale Insects

If you found a large number of wasps and bees surrounding the stems, then it is a sign that there is something unusual. You may find honeydew covering the branches and the leaves appear yellow, which indicates the presence of Scale insects. Also, black molds may be formed if the infestation was severe.

It’s your lucky day if you noticed their existence early or if the insects are immature because you can kill them by using systemic insecticide. If there are mature colonies, you will need to use a horticultural oil that is labeled safe for edible plants. Unfortunately, if you are too late, the crops may rot.

Make Use of Natural Pest Controllers

You should try to attract biological pest agents that thrive on devouring any harmful insect. Beneficial insects as ladybugs are great for wiping out undesirable guests. So, you need to plant flowers among the crops to invite in pest controllers. Furthermore, there are bigger agents as hedgehogs which are called gardener’s best friends.

Taking care of your garden requires more than planting the seeds and watering them. It takes effort and regular checkups to make sure that all of the plants and trees are in good condition. It is easy to control early infestations so make sure of treating the problems as soon as they emerge. Remember that nature is on your side and can share in keeping your trees safe.
