How To Make Mother’s Day Special When You’re A Single Mom

Celebrating Mother’s Day during the midst of a divorce or as a single Mother can be solemn, but it doesn’t have to be a reminder of hard times. You’re still a loving Mother who cares for her children and deserves all the care and attention this holiday affords you. New traditions can be made with and for your family, so don’t overlook the magic this special day can bring.

Treat Yourself to Flowers

Flowers are a great luxury many can afford, especially now that florals can last for over 3 weeks with proper care and attention. Plus, the Mother’s Day deals at Bouqs Co. make subscribing to a weekly or bi-weekly flower box super affordable. You don’t have to forgo the things you love as a single Mother as long as spending doesn’t go over budget. After all, that little reminder of love and kindness given to yourself periodically may be the pick-me-up you need over this holiday.

Have Brunch With Other Mothers/Women

You likely have a favorite breakfast place or restaurant you like to go to every now and then, so why not take this opportunity to indulge in some eggs and pancakes? If your children live at home or close, they can take you out, but if you’re far away from your kids, ask other mothers or women to join you. Make it extra festive by drinking some champagne or order a cake for the table to enjoy. I’m sure the other Mothers and women will appreciate the company.

Talk to Your Children for Suggestions

A recent divorce can turn your world upside down, and you may have some difficulty adjusting to your new life, and that’s okay. You are totally allowed to lean on your children at this time and ask what they would like to do for Mother’s Day. Sometimes taking your children to a museum or to the park on Mother’s Day, but having it not be about the holiday, can be cathartic. You can create new traditions with your kids that will turn into something you can hold on to.

Get Together With Family Members In-Person or On Zoom

Do you have other family members nearby? They would love to spend Mother’s Day with you! Just call them on the phone and ask if they could spend the day with you, whether it’s your own Mom, cousins, aunts, or your sister-from-another-mister. If you’re used to spending this day with your family, keep that tradition alive by bringing new people into the fold. Who knows? You may even create a deeper connection with a distant relative that you haven’t seen in a while.

Alone on Mother’s Day? No Problem!

Go Traveling

You don’t have to travel to Europe or a distant country to get away on a mini-vacation. If you don’t have the funds to go overseas, try taking a trip to the state over or to the next city. Book yourself a nice hotel, explore your new surroundings and try the local restaurants.

Try Something New

Lookup on Facebook or Google new events in your area to give you some suggestions on how to spend your free time. You may be able to find a cooking class, yoga studio, or touring group that bar hops on the weekends. Making new friends can help you get out of a spiral.

Treat Yourself

There is never a wrong reason to treat yourself, whether it’s Mother’s Day or a Wednesday. Pamper yourself by visiting the hair salon for a new haircut and color, the nail salon for a massage and a pedicure, and enjoy a night out at a bar with a couple of cocktails.

Volunteer

Some Mothers like to give back to others which takes the focus off of themselves. Volunteering can help you feel fulfilled, mainly if your children are with their Dad this weekend. There are plenty of organizations to choose from that don’t necessarily have anything to do with Mothers.
