Patokh Chodiev: His Interest In Japanese Culture, Kabuki Theater

Kazakhstan businessman Fattah Chodiev was fond of Japan since he was in school. He read a lot about it. Dreaming of moving to a country of his dreams, he really wanted to learn Japanese. This desire led him to the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, where he received all the necessary knowledge, and then for a long time moved to the country of the rising sun. What did Chodiev do for many years in Japan? Why does he find the Kabuki Theater so valuable to the world? More details in the material.

In 1976, Fattah Chodiev graduated from high school, after which he began to prepare for the relocation. Almost immediately after the university, the Kazakhstani was invited to work as an adviser to the USSR trade representative in Japan. Fattah was also concurrently responsible for Soviet-Japanese relations.

In 1991, when the USSR collapsed, Chodiev moved from Japan back to Kazakhstan to open his own business. By that time, he had gained enough experience and Japanese wisdom to do truly great things. Just a few years after the move, he became one of the most influential and wealthy businessmen, whose name was recognized in almost every country.

Fattah Chodiev is a shareholder in the Eurasian Resources Group, a group of companies that includes leading enterprises specializing in profitable and important areas for the world – mining and processing of mineral resources (ferroalloys, iron ore and so on). The businessman is the founder of the charity foundation, whose main mission was to promote academic achievement, to help the best students (especially MGIMO students) realize their potential. Thanks to the “International Chodiev Foundation”, it was possible to increase the number of successful projects dedicated to innovations in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries.

Patokh Chodiev: the businessman’s most famous charity project in gratitude to Japan

In his interviews, Patokh Chodiev repeatedly stated that he had learned a lot from the Japanese. The businessman lives with great gratitude to this country for many years. Japan’s unique, distinctive culture has helped the billionaire form the right mindset. He discarded all negative emotions and began to think clearly. Therefore, he managed to build a successful business and, at the same time, become a good husband and father.

“One hundred years have passed since the Indian sage Rabindranath Tagore visited fabulous Japan. He spoke about the country very accurately. I agree with every word of the writer. Japan really gave life to a culture that was perfectly shaped and developed in people this kind of vision when the truth is seen in beauty and beauty in truth. I felt myself in this world and, probably, it was so. Part of me will always belong to this amazing country. If possible, I will help, because my gratitude for all the gifts given by Japan has no limit. By helping, I mean allowing personal changes. It seems to me that if a person visits Japan, even for several months, they will return to their homeland a different person, becoming the best version of themselves,” said the businessman Patokh Chodiev.

Even a century after the words of Rabindranath Tagore in Japan, it is not difficult to discern the same centuries-old experience of traditional culture. The land of the rising sun is still beautiful, and so are its inhabitants.

When Fattah Chodiev began to make good profits from his business projects, he also began to invest a lot in charity. In addition to the Chodiev Foundation, he sent funds to Japan to save, for example, an important collection of kimonos or to organize the performance of the famous Kabuki theater in other countries. The businessman believes that this is his duty, which he will fulfill at every opportunity given to him.

In 2011, a Kazakh businessman found out that they were going to sell the collection of kimonos, which together are one composition because the Itika Kubota art museum was on the verge of bankruptcy. Fattah Chodiev saved not only the creations but the museum itself.

“They cannot be separated. Yes, each kimono is unique in itself. But together they are an incredible composition, which shows the deep meaning set in it by the creator. When in the early 2000s I saw these Itika Kubota kimonos for the first time, I was delighted. I constantly wanted to return to them. After buying a kimono, I decided to arrange an exhibition of these masterpieces – so that the whole world would know how real art looks. The first exhibition was held in Hokkaido, and after that – in America, Kazakhstan, Russia, and other countries,” said the Kazakhstani billionaire Patokh Chodiev.

The Itika Kubota kimono collection consists of 104 works. Their total cost is approximately $3.2 million. A Kazakh businessman said that despite the fact that he acquired a kimono, they are the property of Japan and belong only to this country.

Fattah Chodiev: organizing Kabuki tours in Russia and other countries

Saving the kimono collection is far from the first and certainly not the last charity project of the Kazakhstan businessman. To tell the whole world about Japan, to let everyone fall in love with it, is Fattah Chodiev’s old dream. One of the great things that will undoubtedly contribute to this is the organization of the performances of the Japanese Kabuki Theater.

The Kabuki Theater has been performing for a hundred years. His first visit to Kazakhstan took place in the era of the Soviet Union. Then the Kazakhstanis were surprised by the exotic appearance of dancers from Japan. Dancing was also very unusual, but it made the heart skip a beat from its beauty.

A Kazakhstan businessman is glad that he has the opportunity to help residents of Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan more often attend the performances of the Japanese theater. According to the businessman, the hall completely collects a full house every time. It is known that the billionaire has been helping organize Kabuki tours for more than ten years and plans to do this for many more years.
