Ways To Make Your Pets Comfortable While They’re Home Alone

Having a pet is pretty much the equivalent of having a child- they need love, attention, and supervision. But as things stand, there are instances in our lives and responsibilities that we need to take care of, which means we have to leave our pets home alone at times. So the important thing to do in this case, is to figure out the best way to make your pets feel comfortable, especially when they’re home alone.

This is why we’ve made a list of things that you need to do that will help you stay guilt free whenever you have to leave your furry friends on their own.

Create A Space For Them

If you’re going to be leaving your pet home alone, then it’s important that you create a space filled with items that give them everything they need. You can find plenty of furniture that is designed specifically for animals if you do a bit of research online. The options available on this website are mostly handmade and cater to your pet’s comfort. They also look great, so they’ll be a welcome addition to your overall design. By doing this, your pet will know where they can sleep, play or eat without feeling distressed over the fact that you’re not around.

Routine Means Security

Routine is extremely important when it comes to pets, because this way, they understand the pattern of each day, and in turn, this will give them a sense of security knowing when you will leave the house, and when you will be back. There are certain triggers such as designated times to take your dog out for walks, or when you clean out the kitty litter for your cat that can help set these routines.

Your Smell Matters

It actually goes a long way in comforting your pet if you make it a point to have your scent on items in the household when you’re  not there. You can lightly spray their bedding and the furniture around the house so that they can rest assured that the smell that they are familiar with is still there, giving them a sense of security as well.

Treat Dispensers

It’s important that you get your pet a bunch of toys that are specifically made for them. This is sure to keep them busy while you’re away, and you won’t have to worry about them swallowing anything that may be a choking hazard. There are also toys that act as treat dispensers as well, so these are bound to keep your furry friends busy for quite a while!

Sufficient Food & Water

Dog Eating Dog Food

Make sure that you get a food dispenser that releases the food as it finishes. This way the excess stays fresh, and you don’t have to worry about them having enough food. The same goes for water- you need to make sure that they have enough water, especially since there will be instances where you might have to stay out longer than you anticipated.

Surveillance

Thanks to the wonders of technology, we now have the ability to keep an eye on our little furry friends at all times. You can get an app that connects with a surveillance camera that you can set up anywhere in your home so that you can keep an eye on them. There are even two-way visual and audio options so that you can reassure them by having them see and hear you if you feel they are distressed, or if you know you’re going to be away for a long time.

Have Someone Check In

It’s always a good idea to have someone that lives close-by and that you trust to check in every once in a while. You may have everything else under control, but it doesn’t hurt to have a human eye on them just to make sure that all is well and so that they don’t have to feel so alone for the whole time. This is especially useful if you have a dog that needs to be taken out if you’re gone for too long.

If you follow the tips provided here, you won’t have to feel as guilty as you usually do when you leave your pet alone. The fact of the matter is, you’re going to have to leave them every now and then, and it’s best to get them accustomed to this from early on, as soon as you bring them in, so that they understand that they are not being neglected or punished, and that this is just the norm of the daily routine of your lives together.
