Why Young Adults In NYC Are Getting Botox

New York City is filled with aspiring actors, models, and professionals who need to maintain a certain level of physical appearance to remain successful in their field. It comes as no surprise that cosmetic treatments are popular in NYC, based on the size of the city alone, leaving residents with plenty of options of New York medical spas, like Skinly Aesthetics,  to choose from. Botox is amongst the most popular minimally invasive treatments available, and has gone from a treatment for celebs and the NYC elite to a treatment common in most households around the city. Furthermore, Botox is not only popular amongst middle aged and senior adults to eliminate already existing wrinkles. Instead, it has become increasingly popular as a cosmetic treatment amongst young adults as young as 20 years of age. But why would anyone get Botox before they even have wrinkles? Botox can be used as a preventative measure and actually has way more benefits than wrinkle reduction alone. Here are a few ways that Botox can be used (aside from eliminating wrinkles).

We all know that Botox is used to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles mainly around the crows feet, frown lines, and horizontal lines on our foreheads. The way that Botox works is by paralyzing the muscle in which it is injected, restricting muscle contraction, stopping your facial expressions from forming lines and wrinkles with facial muscle contraction. This is how Botox not only eliminates already existing lines and wrinkles, but also prevents new ones from forming, hence, why so many young adults are hopping on the Botox train, to prevent the overall signs of aging.

Botox is more than just one cosmetic purpose. In fact, it has several. Botox can be injected into the masseters to relax and reduce the size of the muscles around your jawline, slimming down your overall lower face. It can also be injected right above the lip to create what is called a “lip flip,” which flips your upper lip upward, creating a fuller appearing top lip. People also get Botox injected above the lip to treat their gummy smile, which is when the teeth and gums are fully exposed when someone smiles. Botox can relax the muscle above the lip causing it to lift up less, reducing that gummy smile look. Some people also get Botox injected right above the eyebrow for an eyebrow lift to bring up the arch slightly to create a more awakened look.

Aside from aesthetic purposes, Botox can also be used for medical purposes, which was its original intention before it was FDA approved for aesthetics. Medically, Botox can be injected into the masseters to treat TMJ. It can also be used to treat chronic migraines, eye twitching, and spasms. Botox is also commonly used to treat hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating, which is not rare, especially during hot and humid New York summers.

Overall, Botox serves more than just the one purpose of eliminating already existing wrinkles, which is why it is so popular amongst even younger adults who want to prevent their faces from developing wrinkles, or treat one of the above mentioned conditions. Be sure to consult with an experienced and licensed physician before scheduling your Botox appointment to confirm that you are a candidate for the procedure.
