Distance Learning Progress — April 20, 2020

On this episode of Eye On The Valley presented by SCVi & iLEAD Schools, Amber is out, and Matt Watson drives the show today.

Our first guest on the show is Dawn Evenson, CEO of iLEAD California. Dawn calls in to talk about what Dawn and her team has done to help iLEAD Schools transition to distance learning so effectively. Dawn and Matt talk about what their schools did to prepare once it became apparent our daily lives would be changing for a long time to come. Dawn talks about how change is something some of us fight against, especially when things are going well. Despite this, Dawn and her staff got ahead of things and started to prepare for significant change early. With a fair amount of online and distance learning structures already in place, iLEAD Schools were able to create a well-articulated plan that incorporated all of their learners into a new learning environment.

Our next guest on the show is James Glapa-Grossklag, Dean at College of the Canyons. James oversees a lot of the departments at College of the Canyons that are in charge of the electronic delivery of resources and educational programs. James shares incredible information about how COC has continued to shift all of their course offerings and traditional services to online and remote methods of instruction. James also talks about the Canyons Promise Program, and how that will be upheld no matter what during this difficult time. Listen to the whole interview with James during Hour 2 in the podcast.

Our last guest is Kristina de Bree, MA, LMFT, EMDR, and she calls in to talk about how easy it is to get in touch with her through tele-health sessions and other online therapy methods. To get in touch with Kristina or to find out more about what she can do for you or a loved one, check out her website and contact her today.

About SCVi & iLEAD Schools:

“At iLEAD we’ve built a model based on what we believe to be the best of all that is out there. We believe passionately in project-based learning not because it’s a fad but because it goes to the heart of how kids learn. We’ve incorporated technology not as a spiffy add-on but as an organic part of the learning process in the 21st century.

We value and encourage leadership not just as a part of a career track but by instilling in each learner the confidence and character that inspire others.

It’s not unusual that we want our learners to think for themselves. But to do this requires a grounding in the arts, in design and in humanities, and the need to feel at home in the world. For us, “thinking for themselves” is not just about solving problems but about an organic vision of the world they live in and one they will inherit.

Finally, we value the social and emotional development of our learners. We believe there is an implicit, as well as an explicit, curriculum to teach. Our goal is nothing short of learning, to change the world.” Read More…
