Eye On The Valley – iLEAD’s 6 Programs for K-12 and SCV Library Resources and Upcoming Events – December 9, 2022
On this episode of Eye On The Valley, host Matt Watson welcomes guests Amanda Fischer and Elizabeth “Liza” Purdy!
Matt opens the show with the newly promoted CEO of iLEAD and a mother of four, Amanda Fischer. She talks about how her role as a CEO differs from being a superintendent. Fischer mentions her inspiration to be in this is because of her multitude of experiences in schools throughout the years, along with her four kids, she wants to help the children become great life-long learners with the freedom to think and inspire critical thinking in them. Additionally, she wants to focus on celebrating and fostering each child’s personality and career” (Fischer).
They continue on with a quick talk about Covid and Fischer believes that it has allowed people to be more thoughtful about going to school sick and be more health conscious such as keeping hands clean and much more.
Additionally, they dive right into how these iLEAD public schools differ from normal public schools by the variety of what they offer. Starting with the dual immersion program, various events for families, some charter schools, and seat-based schools in which students come in every day and are seated in class. Then she continues with how the online schools are different starting with iLEAD online, iLEAD hybrid with exploration and AV (mix of online and home on your own depending on which they prefer), and empower generations. Overall, the main goal of the 6 programs make sure that all the children will have a program that’s unique and individualized for their needs to learn and grow (Fischer).
Later on, Matt welcomes the senior librarian in charge of youth services, Elizabeth “Liza” Purdy, about the 5-year goal system of trying to reach out and partnering with homeschoolers to give them the resource they need. Then she talks about all the fantastic upcoming events. The annual literacy event that just occurred last week included a magician, marimba, drum circle, and much more.
Another big upcoming event that’s almost like a giant book club. Everyone can read the book and will be able to attend the event that includes author talks, where the author discusses their inspirations, and possibly book signings in March. They usually have a theme relating to the book during the event. However, the title is kept hush, hush for now until February, when it will be revealed.
They also have the Teen Fan Fest on April 7 from 6-8 pm from Canyon Country Community Center includes dungeons and dragons, anime, comic books, and fandom-related stores.
Along with many more fun upcoming events that people can find out by going to the SCV library website and then clicking on the “Events” tab, a calendar should pop up with many fun activities and information. The library has 3 different branches, Valencia, Newhall, and Canyon Country.
Lastly, Big T has his five minutes of fame as he hosts trivia for “Frogger”, Liza, and Engineer Precious! Listen to the entire show to find out more information about iLEAD’s various programs and the SCV library’s resources offered and upcoming special events here!
